About Us
In 1946, L. Doolin Gorman and Lewis G. Scharpf joined together with a heartfelt promise: to serve local families with distinction, careful attention to detail, and honest value. On February 22, 1947, they dedicated their first funeral home on South National.
Through the years, the firm grew alongside the community it served. In 1968, Mr. Gorman retired and sold his share to Bill M. Abbott, who served until 1978. W. Bruce Howell joined as an apprentice in 1976, became a partner when Mr. Abbott retired, and became sole owner in late 1978. In 1991, the funeral home moved to its current home on East Seminole. Mr. Scharpf continued caring for families until his retirement in 1994.
For fifty years, Bruce Howell devoted his life to the families of our community, and his kindness lives on in all we do. Today, his daughter and son-in-law, Heather and Clint Mease, lovingly carry that promise forward, continuing a tradition of compassionate care that began 80 years ago.
