Katherine "Katy" E. Viles Adams passed away on Sunday, June 27, 2010. She was born November 20, 1930, in Springfield, MO. She is proceeded in death by her parents Dorothy and Lester Viles and mother-in-law Paulina Adams. Katy lived a full life surrounded by family and many friends. She is survived by her daughter Paula Tindell, granddaughter Allison Tindell, son Robert L. Adams of Dallas, TX, daughter-in-law Debra Adams, grandsons Tyler and Alexander Adams, sisters Diane Haworth of Grayslake, IL, and Dorothy Watkins of Mesa, AZ, 3 nieces, 1 nephew, and their families. Katy led a life dedicated to others. She served as the Executive Director of the YWCA from 1975-1982, and then served as the Associate Director of the Springfield Family YMCA from 1982-1997. She helped implement the Prime Time program at the YMCA in 1985, which provides parents with after-school care and has served thousands of elementary-aged children in the Springfield and surrounding area. Katy served on the Heart Association and Regional Girl's Shelter Board of Directors and as a Meals on Wheels volunteer. She was a charter member and an elder of Covenant Presbyterian Church which was chartered in 1958. A memorial service will be held at Covenant Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, June 30, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. under the care of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home.
