Woodrow Wilson "Woody" Pearson, Jr., 74, Springfield, passed away at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 12, 2010 in Ozark Riverview Manor. He was born December 25, 1935 in Matthews, Missouri, the son of Woodrow Wilson, Sr. and Gladys Maudene Johnson Pearson. Woody graduated from high school in Matthews, where he played basketball, baseball and track. He resided in Springfield for over 45 years. Woody was a salesman for Don Wessel for many years before opening Woody's Used Cars on St. Louis Street and operating it for over 20 years. He also served as a certified substance abuse counselor for St. John's Bridgeway. Woody was an avid golfer, sports fan and formerly played semi-pro baseball for Jefferson City. He was a member of Schweitzer United Methodist for over 40 years. He is survived by his wife, Janice Pearson, of the home; two daughters, Kym Nelms, and husband, Rich; and Laura Pearson, all of Springfield; a brother and his wife, David and Diane Pearson, Sikeston, Missouri; a sister, Carolyn Pearson, House Springs, Missouri; one granddaughter, Ashton Nelms; and a host of other family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, April 15, 2010 in Schweitzer United Methodist Church with the Reverends Bob Casady and Lori Lampert officiating under the care of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Danforth Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.
