Obituary

Passed on April 20, 2015 following a short illness, to be with her heavenly father, family and friends who preceded her. Born in Springfield, MO to Jacob "Blackie" and Ella (Murphy) Decker. She was baptized as a teenager in the Church of Christ. Following graduation from Springfield Senior (Central) High, Wilma married Bert A. Sowards. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan her entire life and her extensive knowledge of baseball statistics, history and trivia never ceased to amaze others. She collected Cardinal memorabilia, never missed a game and attended many in St. Louis throughout her life. She worked part time at the Greene County Courthouse in the office of Gene Wickliffe over 20 years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bert, who passed in 1990 and grandson Chris at the age of 16. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and many lifelong friends. She is survived by her daughter, Karen and husband Denny Ballard, a grandson, Digger Wells and wife Danielle. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her and especially her close friend of many years, John Brayfield. Visitation will be Wednesday evening, April 22, 2015 from 6-8 pm in Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Graveside services will be at 10am in Rivermonte Memorial Gardens on South Lone Pine. Memorial donations may be made to Make-A-Wish Foundation, 13523 Barrett Parkway Drive, Suite 241, St. Louis, MO 63021.
