IN LOVING MEMORY OF
William
Westfall
October 3, 1921 – October 1, 2023
William (Bill) Buchanan Westfall, age 101, passed from this life Sunday, October 1, 2023 at Glendale Gardens Nursing and Rehab in Springfield, MO. He was born October 3, 1921 in Springfield.
After graduating from Springfield High School (Central) in 1939, he worked for Springfield Wagon Co. He is probably one of the last to have worked there. He moved to Detroit, Michigan to live with relatives and worked at Fruehauf Trailer Co. In 1941, Fruehauf transferred him back to Springfield to work at their local offices.
In 1942, he met the love of his life, Rozetta Fuller, at Doling Park Skating Rink and 3 months later he was drafted into the Army, not returning until November 1945. They married in December of 1945, creating a wonderful life for 69 years. They corresponded by letters for 3 years.
While in the Army, he was in the 2nd Armored Division (Hell on Wheels). He participated in D-3 invasion of Normandy, France and the Battle of the Bulge. He always said that "he saw it all."
After returning from the war, he returned to Fruehauf and then made a change to Hutco Equipment Co., where he was able to purchase with his wonderful partner, Mac McDaniel.
Bill was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting quail, fishing, gardening and farming. He loved all sports, especially the St. Louis Cardinals. He could talk about anything and loved life and people.
Bill was a member of Abou Ben Adhem Shriners for 70 years. He loved being in the Greeters, having so many wonderful memories. He was also a Mason for 74 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Ruth Westfall; wife of 69 years, Rozetta; 2 grandchildren, Allison Ann Anderson and William "Billy" Ray McAnally; four brothers, Ray, Jr., Bob, Paul and Jack and a sister, Deloris Miller, all of Springfield.
He is survived by his two daughters, Janice (Robert) McAnally of Branson and Judy (Ric) Anderson of McKinney, TX; four grandchildren, Natalie (Brad) Reasons of Branson, Robbie McAnally of Branson, Andy (Brittany) Anderson of Lucas, TX and Amy Anderson of Austin, TX; great granddaughter Charlie Anderson of Lucas, TX; sister Melba Barclay of Springfield and brother Danny Westfall.
Thank you to all of his family and friends and those that helped him every day at Glendale Gardens Nursing and Rehab. Thank you Allison, Rhonda, Tina, Kent, James, Lonnie and Olen for always being there for him. Thank you also to Hospice for your help and assistance.
