Obituary

William "Lee" Schweitzer, 89, of Springfield, passed away on May 29, 2010 in St. John's Mercy Villa. He was born April 16, 1921 in Springfield and was the youngest son of Fred C. and Mabelle (Lampe) Schweitzer. Lee graduated from Springfield Senior High School in 1938 and graduated from Southwest Missouri State Teachers College in 1942. He served in the Army Air Corps in World War II. For forty years after the war he managed Schweitzer Bros. Inc. Industrial Supply, a family owned business established in 1889. Lee enjoyed a good story or joke and enjoyed passing them on to friends. He was united in marriage to Helen Marie LeDuc on May 21, 1941. Helen preceded him in death on January 27, 2007. Two children were born from this loving union. Lee is survived by his son, Steven L. Schweitzer and wife, Paula Raynee of Springfield; his daughter, Sally M. Petty and husband, Mark of St. Louis; four grandchildren, David L. Schweitzer of Rogersville, Cynthia M. Willis of Springfield, Mark S. and Brian H. Petty of St. Louis. He was blessed with six great-grandchildren, Miranda and Eden Schweitzer of Rogersville, Harrison, Charlie and James Petty of St. Louis, and Ben Willis of Springfield. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 2, 2010, from 6 to 7:30 p.m., in Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel, 1947 E. Seminole. A private family graveside service and burial will be held in Hazelwood Cemetery. Lee's family would like to extend thanks to St. John's Mercy Villa and St. John's Hospice for their care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to First and Calvary Presbyterian Church History Committee, 820 E. Cherry, Springfield, Missouri 65806.
