William Kenneth "Bill" Pumphrey, 84 of Springfield passed away the afternoon of September 24th, 2011, in St. John's Hospital, Springfield, Missouri. He was born in Lead Hill, Arkansas to Floyd and Argie Pumphrey. He was very proud to have served his country for 24 years in the U.S. Air Force including service in Korea, Vietnam, Japan and Germany. He also served in the U.S. Merchant Marines for 4 years prior to joining the U.S. Air Force. Bill was a loving husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren and will be missed by all, including many other friends and relatives. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary Pumphrey, his sister Judy Burlsworth and her husband Leon of Harrison, AR; his daughter Vicki Lacy and her husband Butch of Overland Park, KS; his son Bill Pumphrey and his wife Kara of Atlanta, GA; his grandchildren, Brooke Lacy, Katherine Lacy, Abby Lacy, Michael Lacy, Hayden Pumphrey and Christian Pumphrey. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers and 2 sisters. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 30th, at 7-9pm at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home, Brentwood Chapel, Springfield, Missouri. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, October 1st, at 10:30am at East Sunshine Church of Christ. Burial with military honors will be in Hazelwood Cemetery.
