February 16, 1929 – January 28, 2021
William "Bill" Thomas Prochaska, age 91, of Springfield, MO passed away in the early morning hours of Thursday, January 28, 2021 in Olathe, KS of Alzheimer's with his daughters at his side.
He was born in Chicago, IL on February 16, 1929 the son of Lucy (Dixon) and William J. Prochaska.
Bill graduated high school from Marinette, WI and joined the Army Air Corp (Air Force) in 1946 directly after his graduation. He then met Rhodora Jeanne Campbell at the USO and married her on February 27, 1954 at Ebenezer Lutheran Church in St. Louis, MO. They were married for over 60 years when she passed away January 15, 2015. They resided in Springfield, MO since 1971.
He had a lifelong career working for the Federal Aviation Administration, retiring in 1984. Then, he went to work as the Building Grounds Manager at First and Calvary Presbyterian Church, where he was a longtime member. He was heavily involved in church his entire life. He was an Elder in the church, Church School Superintendent, member of the 49ers Sunday School Class and cooked at Men's Breakfast for over 40 years.
He was a member of the American Legion and a Mason. He had many hobbies, which included: fishing, golfing, reading, woodworking and gardening. Bill dearly loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his younger brother, Richard (Dick) Prochaska; and his wife, Rhodora.
Bill is survived by his daughters, Jeanne (Bob) Boehmler of Bentonville, AR and Janet (John) Hayes of Leawood, KS; grandchildren, Amber (Jarrod) Shelton, Gardener, KS, Dacia (Josh) Johnson, Bentonville, AR, Leah (Brendon) Padilla, Cave Springs, AR, Aaron (Amanda) Boehmler, Bentonville, AR, Camilla (Chris) Elder, Ozark, MO, John B. Hayes, Nixa, MO; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Private memorial service will be held at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Military Burial will follow and be held at Missouri Veterans Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association - Heart of American Chapter, 3846 W. 75 th St., Prairie Village, KS 66208, or Wounded Warriors, 225 N. Michigan Ave., FL 17, Chicago, IL 60601.
