Oatman
June 25, 1931 – August 18, 2022
William Duane Oatman of Springfield, Missouri passed away at 5:45 a.m. on August 18 th , 2022 in Mercy Hospital in Springfield. He was born the son of William E. Oatman and Anna H. Edwards Oatman in Ainsworth, Nebraska.
He was a veteran of the United States Air Force from 1949-1953. Bill worked many years in the lumber business and upon his retirement he turned to his lifelong love of art. He studied extensively finishing his formal training at the Institute Allende in Mexico. There he became an accomplished artist in landscapes, Mexican nudes, and architecture. But the vivid colors in Mexico kept bringing him back to his first love, florals. Bill's oils can be found in private collections in California, Arizona, Nebraska, Kansas, Vermont, Texas, Florida, and Mexico.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife Kathy Caston Oatman. He is survived by his son Vernon Oatman and his longtime partner Laurie McCulley of Springfield, daughter Debbie Fisher and her husband Brad Fisher of Springfield, daughter Donna Casamento of Indianapolis, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
No public services were help per the wishes of Bill. A small celebration of his life was shared with his immediate family on August 28 th , 2022.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Springfield Art Museum.
