Obituary

William Bruce Murray, known affectionately as Bruce, passed away on August 29, 2024, at the age of 73. Born on August 16, 1951, in Monticello, Illinois, to Bill and Milly Murray, Bruce lived a life filled with passion, entrepreneurship, and love for family.

Bruce's formative years were marked by his athletic prowess. An avid sportsman, he excelled as a star player in both football and baseball during his high school years. His talents extended beyond the field, as he showcased his musical abilities as a drummer, traveling across the state to perform at various shows with his band.

After graduating high school, Bruce pursued higher education and earned his degree in marketing. This academic foundation would later prove instrumental in his business ventures.

Bruce's entrepreneurial spirit led him to embark on several successful business ventures.   He opened one of the first video stores in Missouri, Front Row Video, demonstrating his foresight in the entertainment industry.   Later in his career, Bruce owned and operated a thriving property management business.

Bruce was rarely seen without his trusted canine companions. Over the years, he shared his life with three beloved Labrador Retrievers: Kong, Flash, and Rocket. His passion for sports continued into adulthood as he dedicated time to coaching his sons' baseball teams and fast-pitch softball. For many years, Bruce owned a small drag racing strip, where he raced his own car, aptly named "Showtime." His love for the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) was lifelong, and he owned several Corvettes throughout his life.

Bruce cherished his family deeply. He enjoyed regular outings with his son BJ, daughter-in-law Stephanie, and grandchildren, often visiting various restaurants, with a particular fondness for Chinese cuisine around Springfield.  His grandchildren, Callen (15) and Will (14), affectionately called him "Gumpa" and treasured their walks with him and his dog, creating lasting memories.

Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Milly Murray, his sister Meredith, and brother John.

He is survived by his son, Brad (BJ) and daughter-in-law Stephanie; his grandchildren Callen and Will; his partner of over 25 years, Kim Stovall and Kim's children: Ashley Richardson (spouse Ryan Garrett, daughter Ellie) and Amber Love.

William Bruce Murray's life was a testament to his entrepreneurial spirit, love for family, and passion for sports and automobiles. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
