Obituary

William Patton "Bill" Maddy, age 93, passed away on April 4, 2018 at Mercy Hospital. He was born January 17, 1925 in Philadelphia, PA to William Wilson and Elma Patton Maddy.

Bill was raised in Nashville, TN, and was a graduate of Vanderbilt University.  He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving as a supply officer on the destroyer USS Laffey during WWII.

He married Shirley Clothier in 1949, and they enjoyed 67 years together.

Bill was a banker for over sixty years. He was brought to Springfield in 1967 by E.H. "Bud" Greene to head American National Bank, where he served as president for fifteen years.

Bill was a member of First and Calvary Presbyterian Church, and was involved in numerous civic and charitable organizations including the Shriners, Rotary, Boy Scouts, and the Sons of the American Revolution.  A man of many interests, Bill enjoyed golf, the arts, and a good cigar. He was very proud of his family.

Bill's wife, Shirley, and daughter, Tracey Porro, predeceased him.  He leaves to the future his children, John, Carol and Jeff (Nancy), 12 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.

A visitation will be from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 12, 2018 in Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Graveside services with full military honors will follow at 12 noon at Missouri Veterans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Boy Scouts of America Ozark Trails Council, 1616 S. Eastgate Ave., Springfield, MO 65809.
