William “Bill” St. Gemme, 83, Springfield, passed away at The Arbors at Lakewood Memory Care on June 3, 2026. He received excellent care by the kind and caring staff employed by the facility.

Bill was born August 24, 1942 in Bonne Terre, Missouri to the late Oliver L. St. Gemme and Margaret Isbell St. Gemme.

Bill is survived by his wife, Rita of Springfield, Missouri. They were married. They were married July 17, 1971 in Herculaneum, Missouri. They had no children, but many people wanted to be adopted by them.

Bill was employed by the Department of Health, State of Missouri for almost 30 years. His position was Supervisor of Environmental Health and later he became the Communicable Disease Coordinator at District 5 in Springfield.

Bill was a Vietnam Veteran and served as the Post Commander of VFW Post 3404 for several years. He was also a member of the Veteran Memorial Team Firing Squad and participated in honoring many deceased veterans at their funerals.

Visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 10, 2026 in Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home with a service beginning at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Maple Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bill’s name to the charity of your choice. The casket will be closed so that people can remember Bill as he was the last time they saw him. Bill’s favorite color is orange if you’d like to wear orange in honor of him.
