William Sharon Amoss passed from this life into the arms of his heavenly father on Friday, December 29, 2017 at the age of 84 years.  He was born in St. Louis, MO October 14, 1933 to Sharon and Madia Amoss who preceded him in death.

William (Bill) Amoss was a retired psychologist.  He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Washington University, St. Louis, Missouri in 1956 and his Masters and Doctorate of Education degrees from University of Tulsa in 1970.  While studying at Tulsa University, he was employed by Tulsa Public Schools for 10 years as a counselor.  After returning to Missouri, Bill was employed by the Missouri Department of Mental Health as a psychologist, working at Springfield Regional Center and Nevada State Hospital from 1972 to 1988.  He retired from Ozark Area Care and Counseling, West Plains, Missouri in 2000.  William served his country in the United States Army.

Bill was married to Hazel Kern Meister in June, 1976.  He enjoyed most of all spending his retirement years entertaining and doing things for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, enriching their lives in many ways.  He was a quiet man who left no doubt through that quiet spirit that he loved his grands and loved making their lives full and happy.

Bill taught Sunday school classes wherever he and Hazel lived and was a lifelong member of the Presbyterian faith, his last membership being with Trinity Presbyterian Church, Springfield.  Spending leisure hours at his chosen place of prayer in the park brought much solace in his latter years.  He also enjoyed riding his bike, having lunch with special friends who shared his faith and working out at the fitness center.  He will be missed most of all by his family but also remembered by his friends and those who knew him as a quiet, respectable, caring person.  His smile radiated life and love to everyone he met.  Enjoy your much deserved rest, our friend, companion, Dad and "Grampa".

Bill is survived by his wife, Hazel of Springfield, one daughter, Lisa Landon and husband John David of Springfield, a son, Douglas Meister and wife Connie of Lamar, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life service at Trinity Presbyterian Church/ Brentwood Christian Church, will be held Monday, January 15, 2018 at 2:00 p.m., under the direction of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home with Rev. Chris Miller officiating.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army or Red Cross.
