Willette Harman Lanning Willette Harman Lanning, 95 of Springfield passed away Saturday, July 10, 2010 at 3:15 AM in Mercy Villa. She was born March 10, 1915 in Du Bois, Penn. to Edward Henry and Mary Ethel Corp Harman the last of eight children. She graduated from McKinley Tech High School in Washington, DC and Draughn's Business College. In school, Willette played in the band and was a member of Job's Daughters Drill Team for six years. She was an avid grower of flowers. She was a member of Park Crest Assembly of God Church in Springfield and was a former member of Faith Assembly of God Church in Lothian, Maryland. Willette was a very active church women and loved to entertain her ministers and their families and returning and visiting missionaries. Willette was preceded in death by her parents, a grandchild; and her husband, Ralph Bertrand Lanning who died June 13, 1998. They were married August 7, 1936 in Falling Waters, West Virginia. She and Ralph had moved to Springfield in 1982 after living in the Washington, DC/ Baltimore suburban area for 46 years. She is survived by two sons, Reverend Robert Harry Lanning and wife, Lucille of Grandbury, Texas, and James Wilford Lanning and wife, Jean Elizabeth of Branson, Mo.; two daughters, Barbara Jeanne Tatum of Strasburg, Virginia, and Beatrice Anne McGraw of Springfield; nine grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be Monday, July 12, 2010 at 11:00 am in Park Crest Assembly of God Church with the Reverend Dave Weston officiating, under the care of Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel. Visitation will be today from 4 to 6 pm in the funeral home. An additional service will be held Friday, July 16, 2010 at Faith Assembly of God in Lothian, Maryland. Burial will follow in Ft. Lincoln Cemetery in Bladensburg, Md. Memorials may be made to the Music Scholarship Fund for Cello at Evangel University, 1111 N. Glenstone, Springfield, MO 65802.
