Wilda Fae McKeen Smith, 92, of Springfield, passed away on August 14, 2012. She was born July 16, 1920, in Lincoln, Nebraska to Clifford and Faye Puddy. Wilda graduated from Lincoln High School in 1937, graduated from University of Nebraska with a business degree, and graduated from the Teachers College (SMS) with her Master's in Counseling. She taught accounting/business in the Springfield School System for over 25 years. Wilda was an avid reader. She enjoyed playing Mexican dominos with friends, Branson shows, and traveling. Wilda is survived by her son Norman (Shelley) McKeen, Rogersville; son D. Gene (Connie) McKeen, Turners Station; and daughter Rondi (Kevin) Heinlein, Rogersville; grandchildren Terry, Angela, Darren, Ginger, Sonni, Tyler, and Darbi, and their families; stepdaughters Sharon (Ed) Murray and Sheila (Chuck) Coatney, stepson Steve (Helen) Smith, and their families. Wilda was preceded in death by her husbands Ben McKeen and Howard Smith, her beloved cousin Phyllis Conant, lifetime friend Gladys Longan, and her parents. The family wishes to express appreciation to the loving staff at James River Care Center for the wonderful care Wilda received while she was a resident there. Funeral services will be Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at 2:00 PM in Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Maple Park Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. It was the highest priority of the teacher "Mrs. McKeen-Smith" that her students learn living skills in her classes.
