Obituary

Wesley (Wes) Clark Drummond, age 73, of Punxsutawney, PA passed away at 2:30 pm on Sunday, October 23, 2016 in his home in Springfield, MO. Wes grew up on a dairy farm in Punxsutawney, PA. He was introduced to a love of trains at a young age by his father, who was an engineer on the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad. He was nurtured in the Church of God from birth and became a Christian around the age of 14. Upon graduation from High School in 1961, Wes attended Penn State University for two years and then Anderson College in Anderson, IN for three years. At Anderson College he met the girl who would become his wife, Sandra (Sandy) Mullins Drummond. They married in 1966 and graduated together in 1967. They moved to Terre Haute, IN where Wes was employed by the Columbia Record Club in Data Processing and soon progressed to a managerial position.

Around 1975, Wes felt God's call upon his life for full time Christian ministry. After much prayer and planning, in 1977 he and Sandy moved with their three children back to Anderson, IN, where Wes enrolled in seminary at the Anderson College School of Theology. While attending Seminary, Wes was employed as the manager of Data Processing for Pay Less Supermarkets. He graduated in 1981 and joined the pastoral staff at the North Anderson Church of God in Anderson, IN, where he remained for ten years. While there, his primary responsibilities were administration, pastoral care, and counseling.

In 1991, Wes and Sandy moved to Springfield, MO, where he became the pastor at Walnut Lawn Church of God. He served at Walnut Lawn until 2000, at which time he retired from the pastoral ministry.

Wes loved to teach and used this gift extensively in the churches he pastored and attended. He had a beautiful tenor voice and loved to sing. He had a deep compassion and empathy for people and used that gift in relating to and counseling with people. He was proficient with computers due to his experience in the business world and used that skill at the churches he pastored. Wes was gifted in woodworking and made many treasured pieces of furniture for family and close friends. He liked to read and watch movies with family.

Wes was passionate about model railroading! He started with HO trains in the house when the kids were young, but graduated to G-Scale trains in the back yard after retirement. How exciting it was to his grandkids to help Papa "run" the trains through the yard! After arthritis took its toll on his hip and knees, he changed to O Scale trains and built a layout in the outdoor shop. When cancer came and he went on dialysis, he and a treasured friend built a layout in a back room of the house. Wes did love his trains!

Those who knew Wes would describe him as genuine, caring and compassionate. He was observant of details and of the feelings of others, letting them know that he cared enough to notice. Wes was an encourager, good at building up the confidence and self-esteem of others. He was a prayer warrior. He was forgiving – he did not hold on to grievances but forgave and just continued to love. Wes was generous to others with his finances when he saw a need and to his church. He loved nature – he and Sandy took many trips together to explore the beauty and diversity of God's creation. Wes loved his church and he loved his family. He in turn is loved by many and adored by his wife, children, and grandchildren.

Wes loved God while living in the kingdom of God on this earth, and God took him into His Heavenly kingdom on a Sunday, the Lord's Day. What a worship service there must have been in heaven on that day! Wes has gone home to be with his Lord.

Wes was a member of the Walnut Lawn Church of God in Springfield, MO.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William B. and Minnie P. Drummond of Punxsutawney, PA.

Wes is survived by his wife, Sandy; two sons, Daryl Drummond of Lincoln, MA and wife Jackie, and Andy Drummond of Anderson, IN and wife Jennifer; one daughter, Val Wilkinson of Republic, MO and husband Joe; six grandchildren – Jack, Luke, Samuel, Caleb, Rebekah and Katie; one sister, Twila Drummond of Punxsutawney, PA; two brothers, Jim Drummond of Piqua, OH and Harry Drummond of Oak Ridge, MO.
