Wayne Delane
Porter
June 8, 1919 – April 6, 2009
Wayne Delane Porter was born on June 8, 1919 in Springfield, Missouri to Frank N. Porter and Mary Vanderventer Porter and passed away April 6, 2009 at Cox South Hospital. He attended Central High School and graduated in 1937. On July 22, 1938 he married Elnora Mae Hancock. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, enlisting on May 18, 1944 and was stationed in Japan. He was an active member of the American Legion for over 50 years. Wayne was a Train Engineer with the St. Louis and San Francisco (Frisco) Railway Company now merged with Burlington Northern, starting in 1941 until retiring in 1980. He was an active member of the United Transportation Union joining in 1942 and attended weekly meetings held at the Heritage Cafeteria. Wayne enjoyed breakfast meetings at Cedars with friends and colleagues. He loved fishing with friends and family and made frequent camping trips to the Branson and Arkansas areas as well as trips to Florida with friends during the winter. Wayne was a life long member of the Campbell United Methodist Church and started attending in 1927 while it was still located on the north side of Springfield. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife. He is survived by his daughters: Beverly Porter, Ann Price (Dale), Darylene Presley (Bob) all of Springfield MO. Grandchildren: Christine Coble (Lynn) and Steven Allie of Springfield MO, Kevin Presley (Robyn), Memphis TN, Rob Presley (Ann), New York NY. Great-Grand-Children: Annette Toman and Melissa Maples both of Springfield MO, Kirk Presley Memphis TN, and Great-Great- Grandchildren Paiton Toman and Jacob Fleetwood. Funeral services will be held at 11AM Friday, April 10, 2009 in Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel. Visitation will be held at 10 AM Friday until service time. Burial will follow in White Chapel Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Campbell United Methodist Church, 1747 E. Republic Rd., Springfield, MO 65809 or Railroad Historical Museum Inc., 1300 North Grant St., Springfield, MO 65802.
