Obituary

Wayne was born August 26, 1939, to Wesley A. and Margaret C. McMurtrey (Tracy) in Kidder, MO. He passed away in his home in Rogersville, MO on October 1, 2023. Wayne graduated from Maysville High School in 1957 and went on to receive an accounting degree from Central Missouri State College. He met his wife, Pat, in 5th grade. They were married August 19, 1961, and celebrated 62 years of marriage this year.

Wayne worked for Touche, Ross, Bailey and Smart, CPAs in Kansas City after graduating from college. He also received his CPA certificate while employed there. Later he and Pat moved to Chanute, KS, where Wayne was Financial Vice President of Kustom Electronics, later becoming President. While in Chanute, they adopted their two children, Meredith and Todd. They later moved to Springfield, MO and purchased Savage Sign Company where they worked together until selling the company in 2003. He was active in the Missouri Sign Association.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter Meredith Gentry (Chris) of O'Fallon, MO; his son Todd (Candace) of Douglas, Isle of Man; grandson Lucas Gentry; granddaughters Gia Gentry and Catrina McMurtrey; brother Robert McMurtrey, St. Joseph, MO; aunt Lola Tracy, Cameron, MO and a special nephew and his wife, Ted and Gala Ellis. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Dale, sisters Lois and Mary, and many special aunts and uncles. His family will miss the care and strength he always provided.

No formal service is planned. A private family burial will be held at a later date. Donations may be made to Cox Hospice, PO Box 8131, 65801, or South Street Christian Church, 500 South Avenue, 65806.
