IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Warren Leon
Horine
September 15, 1923 – July 2, 2018
Warren L. Horine of Springfield, a member of the greatest generation, passed away peacefully in his home after a brief illness on July 2, 2018. He was born in Purdy, Mo on September 15, 1923, the son of Dennis E. Horine and Mintie (Goodnight) Horine.
He attended Monett High School and played "George" in the play "Our Town" bringing the entire audience to tears. He graduated in May of 1942 and enlisted in the United States Navy, proudly serving as radio operator/gunner on patrol bombers flying out of Kodiak, Alaska.
After the war he returned home and worked his entire career as a telegrapher and then dispatcher for the Frisco Railroad.
He married Dorothy Frances Dieterich on September 16, 1948 and was united in this marriage for over sixty-nine years.
After taking early retirement they travelled extensively throughout the Unites States. Favorite destinations included the Southwest, the Rocky Mountains, and Alaska. Warren was a founding member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and volunteered in many ministries. He enjoyed talking to people and always had a joke or story to share. He loved being outdoors: hunting, hiking, camping, gardening and going to football games. Most of all he loved God, his country, his family and friends.
Warren was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Nellie Balmas, Ruth Stuthard, and Rayma Faye Cannady and a brother Ralph. He is survived by his wife, daughters Christy Broekhoven (Richard), Kathy Daves (Don), Lora McDaniel (Chuck); sons Bruce Horine (Marcia) and Rob Horine (Jan); twelve grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
A prayer service will be held at 7:00 PM July 5, at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home with visitation to follow at 7:30. Funeral Mass will be at 10 AM Friday, July 6 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Burial with full military honors will be at Missouri Veterans Cemetery at 1:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Catholic Charities of Southern Missouri or Wounded Warrior Project.
The family would like to thank Mercy Hospice and special caregivers Cheryl and Mary.
