IN MEMORY OF WALTER EUGENE "PETE" KNAPP

Walter Eugene "Pete" Knapp, age 91, went to be with his Savior on Wednesday, October 16, 2019.

Walter was born on July 21, 1928 in Springfield, MO to Walter F. "Buck" and Anna Knapp.  He was united in marriage to Maxine Marie (Sloan) Knapp for 65 years until her passing in 2017.

He is preceded in death by his eldest son, Walter Eugene Knapp Jr. in August 2019.  Also preceding him are his parents and siblings Betty, Frank and twin sister, Winiferd.

Survivors include daughter, Charlotte Knapp; sons, Sam Knapp, Tim Knapp, David Knapp (Patty), and Dan Knapp; daughter-in-law, Kathy Knapp; seven grandchildren; a host of special and supportive family members and friends; and a special thank you to a niece, Lora Sweaney, who was available to help the family through so much.

Walter was a Navy veteran and served his country aboard the USS Grand Canyon and USS Chicago.  He retired as a Springfield City Utilities bus driver after 25 years.

He will be remembered for being a devoted husband and dad and for his love of westerns and "armchair coaching" St. Louis Cardinals baseball.  Most importantly, he was known as a faithful, humble servant of the Lord.

Military honors and graveside services will be held on Tuesday, October 22, 2019 at 1:00 PM in Missouri Veterans Cemetery, 5201 S. Southwood, Springfield, Missouri 65804.  Funeral services are entrusted to Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home in Springfield, MO.  Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Monday, October 21, 2019 in the funeral home.
