IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Walter Luvenda
Cowart
November 8, 1942 – June 3, 2024
Walter Luvenda Cowart, 81, of Springfield, Missouri, passed away on June 3, 2024. He was born on November 8, 1942, in Bainbridge, Georgia. Walter served the United States Small Business Administration for 38 years.
Walter loved all of the arts and shared this passion with everyone he knew. He was never without a story and was known to spontaneously break into song anytime, anywhere. He enjoyed traveling and sharing the world with his family. His greatest pride and joy were his three children and seven grandchildren, whom he supported with his constant presence and enthusiasm.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Laura, daughters Shannon (Peter) and Amanda (Lori) of Springfield, Missouri; son Isaac (Amanda Leigh) of Manitowish Waters, Wisconsin; sister Charlotte Preston of Crescent City, Florida; and seven grandchildren: Wesley, Lila, James, Grant, Kayson, Tyson, and William. Walter was preceded in death by his father Isaac Cowart, mother Mary Agnes Hart, and brother Isaac "Chee" Cowart.
Walter was an alumnus of Sewanee: University of the South "Yea Sewanee's Right." In his spare time, he was involved in the Springfield Symphony, Springfield Contemporary Theatre, Landers Theatre, Drury University's Intergenerational Rock Band, Men's Chorus of the Ozarks, The Institute for Lifelong Learning, and the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association.
At the request of Walter, no memorial service has been planned. Instead, please do what you can to fulfill his wish for a just, verdant, and peaceful world by living the family's motto to live simply, laugh often, and love deeply.
Walter's family encourages you to leave a message on his Gorman-Scharpf condolences page. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that charitable contributions to the Springfield Regional Arts Council be made in Walter's name.
