Obituary

Wallace L. (Jack) Preston, Jr. was born January 3, 1938 in Washington, D.C. to Wallace L. (Ben) and Helen (Cowell) Preston. He died August 2, 2014 while playing golf with friends. Jack attended Central High School and Oklahoma State University. After serving 4 years in the Navy, where he studied at the Naval School of Music, he then completed his degree in accounting at SMSU. He started his career as a CPA with a Big 8 accounting firm, Deloitte Touche, and spent the last 33 years as partner in Preston and Nacy, CPA's. Jack was a member of First and Calvary Presbyterian Church where he served as Deacon, Elder and Trustee. He was actively involved in the Springfield community, serving on numerous civic and charitable organizations, including the Jaycees, Rotary, the YMCA, Lakes Country Youth Soccer, the Boy Scouts of America and many others. Jack was an instrumental part of the development of Lake Country Youth Soccer and also Rotary RockNRibs, and along with being a Rotary District Governor, considered these his greatest contributions. He always loved helping a good cause. He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Thea. Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Rita Ann Preston; a brother, Larry; children, Steve, Stewart, Laura, Patty, Scott and their families; loving relatives, treasured friends and life long clients Jack considered "family". He was to each of us a "solid rock" and a really good man! A CPA by trade, a musician at heart Jack will be remembered for his big personality, his love of music, family, friends and storytelling, and his Ukelele playing. A Celebration Of Life service will be held Thursday, August 7 at 3:00 p.m. at First and Calvary Church, 820 Cherry St., Springfield, MO. A Reception and Buffet will follow in the Atrium & Dining Hall. In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to the Community Foundation of the Ozarks, PO Box 8960, Springfield, MO 65801 in his honor.
