IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Virginia
Savage
August 25, 1923 – December 15, 2020
Virginia Wilson Savage passed on to her heavenly home on December 15th at age 97. She died peacefully in her rocking chair, having her morning coffee, in the presence of her loving caregiver Carol.
She was born and raised in Springfield, Mo. As a teenager she met the "love of her life", handsome baseball player LaRue Savage. They were married during the turmoil of WWII. While he was overseas she kept detailed records of his Navy career. These included letters, photos, newspaper accounts of Naval involvement in the battles in the South Pacific. When LaRue returned from service her life with her husband became a more normal American Dream.
Her dream not only included the marriage of 76 years, a lovely home and two beautiful daughters, but also a career of her own. She owned and managed Mary Anna Knit Shops for over two decades. "Ginny" was very creative in many areas. She loved cooking and was famous for her "baked Alaska". Each year at Christmas she would make homemade cinnamon rolls to be handed out to many friends and neighbors. Although a woman of the post WWII, she had a more contemporary lifestyle. She made her daughters clothes with modern styles, and was always interested in the current fashions. She loved decorating and using her creative eye to make her home feel welcoming and inviting. She entertained frequently hosting lovely dinner parties.
She and LaRue loved their family and friends and were highly devoted to them. "Ginny" had a great mind for details and never forgot Birthdays or Anniversaries.
She was a spirited woman, we called her the "Ever Ready Battery". She kept going, with a true zest for life. In her later years she kept her mind sharp and continued to learn. Even though she had macular degeneration, she loved her computer for the blind. That was her lifeline between family and friends, looking forward to emails and frequent family photos.
For many years she was a member of Art groups, Bridge Clubs and Supper Clubs. She was President of Pi Beta Phi Alumni Association, a member of Twin Oaks Country Club and volunteered for Meals on Wheels and the Visitor Center of Springfield.
She loved the Lord and was a member of First and Calvary Presbyterian Church for over 50 years.
She leaves behind 2 daughters; Cathy and Sharon, 4 grandchildren; Allison, David, Sally and Lincoln, 3 great granddaughters; Dara, Olive and Isla.
Her family would ask that when you think of "Ginny", it brings a smile to your heart and fond memory of her.
Private graveside services will be in Wesley Chapel Cemetery, Willard, Missouri. Online condolences may be left at www.gormanscharpf.com.
