Obituary

Virginia Anne Hardie, affectionately known as Ginger, passed away on Tuesday, April 24, 2012 following a long illness. She was born on February 3, 1935 in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. Her family moved to Salem, Missouri where they owned and operated the town's only department store, Brice Department Store. She graduated from Salem High School and matriculated to Christian College in Columbia, Missouri. She graduated from the University of Missouri in 1957 with a degree in marketing. She was active in many extracurricular activities, most notably, her treasured sorority, Pi Beta Phi. After graduation, she worked as a fashion coordinator in South Carolina and Missouri. She married William R. Hardie in 1963 in St. Louis, Missouri where she lived and worked until 1967 when the family moved to Springfield. Ginger's greatest impact was demonstrated by her efforts furthering the success and happiness of her family. She made an extraordinary wife and mother. She is survived by her husband of nearly 50 years, William R. Hardie, a retired banker, investment expert and community leader. She is also survived by her brother Wendell Brice and his wife Madie of Memphis, Tennessee; her son Dr. Rich Hardie and his wife Cynthia Kirkpatrick Hardie and their sons William and Andrew of San Diego, California; her daughter Cynthia Hardie Sharp and her husband Dr. Frank Sharp and their children Meredith and John of Springfield, Missouri; her beloved nieces and nephew Alanna Brice Shappley, Barbie Brice Pepper, Randall Brice, Kathy Stewart Dello Stritto and Ann Stewart Wagner; and her precious granddogs McDuff, Dolly, Fletcher, and Roxy. Visitation will be held on Friday, April 27 from 4pm to 6pm at King's Way United Methodist Church located at 2401 South Lone Pine in Springfield, Missouri, followed by a prayer service and reception under the care of Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel. Ginger's family wishes to thank the brilliant doctors who directed her fight against cancer including Robert Ellis, Abe Abdalla, Frank Fasalla and Malinda Jeter. She wishes that memorial donations be made to: The Boy's Club Trust Fund, 1410 North Fremont, Springfield, Missouri 65802. Ginger left a memorable impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be dearly missed. Her family's loss is immeasurable, but the loss is softened by the love and support of cherished friends and family.
