Virginia Sue Cox passed away Sunday, October 9, 2011 in her home. She was born September 26, 1920 in Cotter, Arkansas to Andrew Lawrence and Daisy Pearl (Wood) Bowers. She was united in marriage to John Henry Cox on August 2, 1940. Living in Marionville, MO she was a housewife, homemaker and worked at the MFA exchange and Vaisey Bristol show factory in Marionville. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Marionville and helped to start the Happy Hearts Sunday School Class. Upon leaving Marionville in 1983 she joined the Asbury United Methodist Church where she is a member today. She was also a member of the Nosegay Garden Club. She enjoyed volunteering for the Council of Churches, Tourist and Visitors Center and other agencies as long as her health allowed. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a brother and sister as well as her son, John Lawrence and daughter-in-law, Nel Cox. Surviving her are her daughter, Beverly; grandsons, Brandon Cox and Justin Kuhns; three nephews, Brad and Susan Bowers, Mark and Anita Bowers and Jim and Martha Cox as well as eight great nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, October 13, 2011 in Asbury United Methodist Church with Chaplain Franklin Reagan officiating, burial will follow in Marionville I.O.O.F. cemetery under the direction of Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel. Visitation will be from 7 to 8 PM, Wednesday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Asbury United Methodist Church, Oxford Hospice or to the charity of your choice.
