Cdr. Marion Virginia True, USNR, Retired, was born September 7, 1917, near Elwood, Mo., the daughter of William Albert and Edith Clara (Fry) True. She died Saturday, December 23, 2017, at the age of 100, in the Manor at Elfindale.
After graduating from State Teachers College (now Missouri State University) in 1938, she taught at School of the Ozarks, Point Lookout, MO, and in the Public Schools, Elkader, IA, before moving to Washington, D.C., where she worked for the Civil Service Commission. She joined the US Naval Reserve in December 1943 and served with the active Navy, Naval Reserve and the Civil Service Commission, Washington, D.C., until retiring in 1977.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Elizabeth Anne Severson; two brothers-in-law, Stanley Bernard Severson and Rex Carl Bennett; and two nephews, Lyle Stanley Severson and Philip Carl Bennett.
She is survived by a sister, Imogene Bennett, Springfield; a nephew, Karl True Severson and his wife, Judy, Springfield; a niece, Cynthia Anne Scott and her husband, Larry, LaPorte, TX.
She was a member of South Street Christian Church.
Graveside services with full military honors will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, December 29, 2017 in Missouri Veterans Cemetery under the direction of Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to South Street Christian Church, 500 South Street, Springfield, MO 65806.
