Violet G. Sims, age 99 of Springfield, MO, passed away on March 23, 2017 at the Ravenwood Assisted living facility.

She was born June 2, 1917 in Chicago, IL to Jacob and Ella Russell, educated in the Chicago schools and a graduate of the American Institute of Banking. She worked for the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago for 18 years.

She married Kenneth M. Sims on November 8, 1952. He was transferred in 1957 by Lily Tulip Cup Corporation to Springfield, MO their home ever after.

She worked for the Springfield school system in food services and as a teachers aide.

Later, she was employed by the Springfield Police Department for 12 years, a job she thoroughly enjoyed.

She was preceded in death by her parents Jacob and Ella, in September 1999 by her husband, Kenneth, and in 2009 her sister Geraldine Russell. She is survived by two sons, Mark and his wife Lynn and Richard, all of Springfield, MO, nephews, nieces and many friends.

She was a charter member of Messiah Lutheran Church, of Springfield, where she had been an active member teaching Sunday school and serving on various committees, a member of Martha Circle Messiah's Piecemakers, and the 50 plus Club, Violet and Ken delivered for "Meals on Wheels" hitting the 1000 meals delivered mark.

She enjoyed traveling, going to Europe and most states in America. Later, she enjoyed going for boat rides on Table Rock Lake.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 28, 2017 from 6 to 8:00 PM at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home on East Seminole, 417-886-9994. Funeral services will be held at Messiah Lutheran Church on Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at 11:00 AM with burial to follow at Hazelwood Cemetery.
