Obituary

Victor Hugh Watts was born March 7, 1924, in Baker, Arkansas. He was the son of Hugh and Bettie Watts. His childhood was spent in Arkansas and the Oklahoma oil fields during the Dust Bowl of the Great Depression. He graduated as valedictorian from Halfway (Missouri) High School in 1942, and promptly enlisted in the Naval Air Corps. He proudly served his country during World War II, having been trained as a pilot, navigator, and gunner for the B-24. Following WWII, he met his future wife, Norma Jean Wakefield, whom he married May 8, 1948. He worked as a salesman, manager and owner, especially enjoying service to general merchandise stores in the rural Ozarks.

Victor (Vic) was known for his infinite patience, and his devotion and loyalty to family, friends, his country, fishing, and baseball. He faithfully served as a deacon at Grace United Methodist Church for many years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma, of 64 years; his parents and a brother, Homer.

He is survived by his children; Vicki Newport, David Watts and Phillip and Liz Watts; his grandchildren, Jonathan Newport, Jennifer and Justin York, Ben Watts, Matthew and Katie Newport, and Oliver Watts. Great-grandchildren include, Makayla and Kelsey Watts, Baylor and Bentley York, and McKenzie and Ella Newport.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Thursday, July 7, 2016 in Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel. Burial will follow in Eastlawn Cemetery. A visitation will precede the service from 9 to 10 am.
