Verncil "Vern" Adelma Peel, son of late Leslie and Lottie (Cooper) Peel, was born on December 3, 1937 in Flint, Michigan and departed this life on December 27, 2022 in Springfield, Missouri with best friend Bruce Newton and daughter Cheryl Down by his side. He was 85 years and 24 days of age.
Vern was united in marriage to Lois Alumbaugh May 1958. Lois passed away May 3, 2018. Three children were born to this union: Michael, Cheryl and Eric.
Vern lived and worked in Flint, Michigan for Fisher Body (General Motors) for 33 years until the plant was closed. They were members of First General Baptist Church in Flint, Michigan where Vern was a deacon of the church. They were very active in their church. After his retirement in 1987 they moved to Mountain Grove, Missouri where they built a house on the 40 acre farm that Lois' parents had lived on. Vern went back to work in Cabool, Missouri at Cabool Transport until he finally retired at age 78 and moved to Springfield, Missouri.
Vern loved spending time with family and friends. He loved and cared for everyone.
Besides his parents, Vern was preceded in death by his brothers Leo, Paul and Kenneth, sisters; Martha, Vivian and Lucille, nephews; Edward, Jeff and Lloyd "Butch".
Survivors include son Michael Peel of Westland, Michigan; daughter Cheryl Down of Springfield, Missouri; son Eric Peel of Springfield, Missouri. Grandchildren: Christopher Voorhess and wife Jenna of Bentonville, Arkansas; Nicole Beaird and husband Josh of Springfield, Missouri; Thomas Down of Springfield, Missouri; Danielle Goodwin and husband Ryan of Brigden, Wales;
Rachel Weltchek and husband Jacob of Westland, Michigan, and Zachary Peel of Ozark, Missouri.
Great Grandchildren: Shelby Voorhess, Lawson Beaird, Walker Beaird, Scarlett Voorhess and a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Friday, December 30, 2022 from 2:00 – 4:00 PM in Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home followed by funeral service at 4:00 PM with Pastor Tom Demers officiating.
