IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Verena Lucia
Sapp
May 1, 1928 – August 26, 2024
Verena Lucia Sapp
On August 26th 2024 the Lord received into his Kingdom a special angel, Verena Lucia Nehl Sapp. She was born May 1st 1928 in Durand, Wisconsin to Annabelle and Henry Fedie. She left many loved ones on earth to be with many loved ones waiting for her in Heaven. She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Springfield, Missouri.
Verena worked many jobs during her lifetime, from waitress to restaurant manager, for Cranks Drugs. She also worked for Sears in their custom drapery department. And many years as a cook for Hillcrest Highschool, where she loved baking pies. After retiring, her fulltime hobby was going to Garage sales and Craft Shows.
Preceded her in death were her parents, Annabelle and Henry Fedie. Her brothers, Arnold Fedie, Francis Fedie, Tony Fedie, her Sister Donna Heit, her Daughter in law Rachel Nehl and Grandson Jon Nehl. Also waiting for Verena will be her son James Henry Nehl and her first husband Francis Nehl along with her later love and husband, Ronald Sapp who brought many years of joy into her life.
Verena is survived by her sisters:
Annette (Dan) Schwab, Hudson WI. who shared this memory of Verena. In late December of 1974, Verena braved the winter weather conditions to travel to Wisconsin to visit Mom who was in the hospital with pneumonia. As chance would have it, I happened to be in the hospital also, ready to deliver my 3rd child. Verena alternating her time with Mom and myself, coaching me through some of my labor. What a special privilege for me.
Doris Drier, Reedsburg, WI. Remembers this about Verena. It is unknown how old Verena was at the time of this incident. She burned her hand severely due to a fascination of viewing a candle flame through the teeth of a plastic comb. The comb caught fire and because she didn't want anything in the house to burn, she ran outside and stuck her hand and burning comb into a snowbank. To this day, every time Doris burns herself, she says a prayer for Verena.
Helen Feeney, Mondovi, WI remembers how she loved garage sales or thrift stores! Would tell me how she made a purchase – didn't need it – whether it be a kettle or article of clothing – take it home – clean it up or alter the shirt! Found such pleasure and happiness in perhaps a dollar purchase. And oh my how she loved cook books, didn't cook any more but loved to read them!
Lavina Gifford, Rochester, MN, wrote that her favorites memories with her sister were the good times they had together shopping at the thrift stores, then having pie and coffee.
Rosemarie Richardson, Glenwood City, WI. Who remembers that she was always happy!
She is also survived by Sister-in-laws Arlene Fedie, Eau Claire, WI, Peg Fedie, Decatur, IL and Gloria Fedie, Palm Coast, FL.
Verena is also survived by her brothers:
Bob (Audrey) Fedie of Durand, WI. Bob remembers that Verena never said anything bad about anybody, and that every time she got a new car it would pull into a garage sale. And when she was up for a family reunion in 2012 (At 84 years old) she wanted to see the upstairs bedrooms.
Dan (Sue) Fedie Pepin, WI. Dan shared this memory of Verena that he would like to share. One summer day when I was a kid, I rode the bike that I shared with my siblings from home to Verena's farm south of Durand, and she took me out to the pasture to pick blueberries and hazelnuts, and that was my first experience tasting them.
Henry Fedie, Cherry Valley, IL who remembers that Verena always remembered to call him on his birthday and wish for him to have a great day.
Verena is also survived by her Sons, Gerald (Annie) Nehl, Marshfield, MO, Patrick Nehl. Springfield, MO and Daughter Diane (Rick) McCay, Saddlebrooke, MO. Along with her grandchildren, Micheal (Kari) Cox, Jonathan (Chasity), Ryan and Richard McCay, Bryan (Denise) Nehl, Marcellina Brown, Doug Peak and Patsy Murphy.
And many great grandchildren, nephews and nieces.
Verena was born a Daughter but became a Sister, Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother and gave love and joy to everyone she touched. Rest in peace Verena – Mom.
