In 1948 she married Wilbur Louis Fischer, who preceded her in death in 1990. In 1961, Wil and Vera with their two daughters moved to Springfield to open Wil Fischer Oldsmobile. They flourished here in Springfield where they met their lifelong friends and enjoyed the beauty of the Ozarks, particularly boating on Table Rock Lake. Over time, with the help of a dedicated staff, Wil Fischer Distributing Company became a nationally recognized enterprise. Vera took pride in remaining active in her later years and loved to travel. She spent time with family and friends enjoying the natural beauty of Crested Butte, Colorado, Palm Desert, California and Table Rock Lake. She was a long time member of Kings Way United Methodist Church. Vera lived life to the fullest. After celebrating Christmas with her family, she entertained friends with a New Year's party and planned an active and busy 2014.
