Truman Collins, 88, of Springfield, passed away Sunday, November 9, 2014 in Mercy Hospital. He was born in Dora, Missouri on February 2, 1926, the son of the late Emery and Molly Collins. Truman graduated from Ava High School in 1943 and taught school for two years in a one-room schoolhouse and later joined the Navy. He married Jean Welker at the First Baptist Church in West Plains, MO on June 23, 1946. They celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary this past June. Truman was a member of Schweitzer United Methodist Church. Truman had a long and successful career with Kraft Foods, retiring in 1989. Truman and Jean were blessed with four children, Larry Collins, Springfield, MO, Danny Collins (deceased), Paula Shinn (Jim) of St. Louis, MO and Robin Dailey of Springfield, MO; one grandson, Patrick Dailey; one step-granddaughter, Julie Shinn Downes and Julie's son, Nathan. Truman is also survived by many special nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; 7 brothers and sisters; son, Dan; and infant granddaughter, Amy Bryan. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. with services at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 12, 2014, in Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel. Following services, Truman will be buried next to his beloved son, Dan, in Hazelwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Ozarks Food Harvest, P.O.
