Obituary

Rev. Treva S. Hall

Springfield – Treva Ruth Straw Hall, 94 years young, departed this life on December 14 th , 2020 at Cox Hospital upon being called home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and her Creator, with her son, Tracy at her side.

Treva was born in Clinton, MO on November 23, 1926 to Eugene and Mable Straw. She had many fond memories of growing up on the farm north of Clinton near Blairstown with her brother Gene, sister-in-law Lorraine (one of her best friends), Grandmother "Ma" Jones and many other cousins and relatives.

She was Valedictorian of her high school class in Norris, MO then attended Central Missouri State University.  She taught school while pursuing her degree, then worked as a Medical Technologist for 14 years in Columbia, Kansas City and others.  When her son Tracy left for college, Treva too continued her education earning her BA from Drury University, and later at Southern Methodist University seminary in Dallas where she achieved her Master of Theology.

Treva served as Associate Pastor at Platte Woods UMC in North Kansas City, Wesley Foundation at MSU, pastoral care at King's Way UMC, and other appointments for the West MO Diocese.  She served on the boards of Central Methodist University in Fayette, MO and Mt. Sequoyah Retreat Center in Fayetteville, AR.  She was an early member of King's Way UMC since the mid-50's.

In nearly every ministry setting – from seminary, to local congregations, bible studies, and campus ministry – Treva was renowned for organizing people and resources, along with her own "sweat equity" to make the world a better place.  Treva was a passionate gardener and said, "I think that we are in the closest touch with our Creator when we are in touch with Creation." She certainly had a green thumb.

She is predeceased by her parents, brother Gene Straw, sister-in-law Lorraine and little sister Margie. She is survived by her son Tracy, his wife Melissa and 3 amazing grandchildren - Kade and partner Jean of NYC, Parker and wife Taylor of Kansas City and Forrest of Austin, TX; her two nephews Chris Straw (Dorothy) and Curtis Straw (Sandy), and niece Annette Kanoy (Todd).

The Family would like to thank the entire staff at Castlewood Senior Living for their wonderful care of Treva over the past two years.  Memorial contributions may be made to King's Way UMC in her name. A Celebration of Life for Treva will be at 11am, Friday, April 30th at King's Way UMC. Online condolences may be left at gormanscharpf.com.
