Wilburn Thomas "Tom" Byrd, Jr, 76, passed away with his family near on January 21, 2026 in Springfield, MO.

He was born February 22, 1949 in St Joseph, MO to W. Thomas Byrd, Sr. and E Louise Isabel Byrd. Tom attended Edison Grade School and Central High School. He was Trackman of the year in 1967. He graduated with the first four year graduating class of Missouri Western State College, Class of 1971, in St Joseph, MO.

Tom married Mary Lou Haynes on May 29, 1970.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Mary Groneweg.

He is survived by his spouse of 55 years, Mary Lou Byrd of the home and their 3 children; Amy Heard (Jeff); Danny Byrd (Savanna); Julie Roy (Cameron); eight grandchildren: Brittany Byrd of St Louis; Ashley Bray (Corey) of Republic, Mo; Brandon O'Neal (Jen) of St Louis, Mo; Courtney O'Neal; Ellie DeCarlis; Izzy DeCarlis; Trey DeCarlis and Maya Byrd all of Springfield, MO area; three Great Grandchildren: Laiken Byrd; Rori O'Neal and Baker O'Neal all of St Louis, Mo area and several cousins and In Laws.

Celebration of Life Visitation will be held in Springfield, MO at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home, 1947 E Seminole, from 5:00 - 7:00 PM on Wednesday, January 28, 2026. Burial will be in St Joseph, MO at a later date.
