Cletis T. 'Tom' Boyd, 88, of Springfield, passed away at 9:40 a.m. Sunday, July 19, 2009 in Cox Hospital. Tom was born February 20, 1921 in Dade County to Floyd Cornelious Boyd and Etheal Thomas Boyd. Early in his life, Tom worked in the CCC's and Consolidated Aircraft in San Diego, Calif. He joined the U.S. Army and served 3 yr. 2 mo. with the 38th Infantry Regimental Hq. Co. of the 2nd. Div. as radio operator for his colonel in Europe. He was proud to have served his country and happy to be an American. After WW II, he returned to Missouri and started work for Southwestern Bell in 1946 where he retired after 36 1/2 yrs. Fishing and hunting were his favorite pastimes, but his greatest love was for his family. Tom was a member of the Glendale Christian Church. Tom was preceded in death by his parents and eight siblings. Brothers, Finis, Leland, Joe, Floyd Jr., and sisters, Zetta, Helen and Virginia. October 18, 1952 Tom was married to Wilma 'Joan' Galloway and to this union, two children were born. He is survived by his wife, Joan of 57 yrs.; son, Jeff and wife Kristy Boyd of Tulsa, Okla.; and daughter, Diane and husband Andy Rohde of Glendale, Ariz.; granddaughters, Lesley Boyd of Ardmore, Okla., Melanie Boyd of Tulsa, Okla.; and great-granddaughter, Kenzie Boyd of Tulsa, Okla.; sister, Jessie Dobbins of Lockwood; and sister-in-law, Ann Boyd of Springfield. Special nieces, Betty Gideon, Joann Mayhough, Connie Zimmerman, Debbie Sanderson, Robin Pacheco; nephews, Glen Steeley, Larry Boyd, Steve Harris, and David Boyd. Plus a very special cousin, Winnie Newell and several extended great nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 23, 2009 in Gorman Scharpf Funeral Home with B.A. Austin officiating. Burial will be in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery.
