IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Todd Douglas
Schaible
January 3, 1946 – December 3, 2016
Dr. Todd Schaible, of Springfield, MO passed away on Saturday, December 3, 2016 from injuries sustained in a fall at his home. He was 70.
Dr. Schaible was born on January 3, 1946 in Hanover, PA to Wilma and Wesley Schaible. Following graduation from Southern High School in Oakland, MD in 1964 he embarked upon his education at the U.S. Air Force Academy. After two years he chose to leave the academy in favor of pursuing a degree in psychology, his true calling. He graduated with a Bachelor's in Clinical Psychology from Clark University in Worcester, MA in 1968. His graduate education in the field of Psychology was completed upon earning his PhD from West Virginia University in 1972.
Todd and his wife, Carol, were married in 1968 and would have celebrated 48 years of marriage on December 28, 2016. The greatest day of their lives came in 1972 with the birth of their son, and only child, Trent. His grandson, Julian, was born in 2007 and was the pride of his life.
In 1977, Todd and his family moved to Springfield, MO following his appointment as President and CEO at Burrell Center's inception, and where he continued to serve until his passing. Dr. Schaible's tireless dedication to improving the lives of those with mental illness, substance use disorders and developmental disabilities won the support of his board, the staff, the community, as well as both state and federal governmental agencies and representatives. Through much vision, perseverance and determination, through nearly 40 years of extraordinarily long hours and untold battles both public and private, he led a team of professionals who have succeeded in giving the Springfield community one of Missouri's largest and most comprehensive community health centers—an organization that has been recognized with many national awards for their programs and services. Additionally, Dr. Schaible was honored personally with numerous awards including the Lifetime Achievement Award in Promoting Mental Health in Missouri, the Missourian Award and the National Counsel Lifetime Achievement Award, to name a few. To those that knew him this is not surprising from a man who believed the maxim, "In all things there is opportunity for growth" and "Value what you are and what you can become," so much that both are inscribed in granite at the entrance of Burrell's main administrative and clinical facility.
He is survived by his wife, Carol, his son, Trent and his grandson, Julian, all of Springfield. Also surviving are his mother, Wilma Schaible of Fairfield, PA, brother, Thomas Schaible of Downingtown, PA and sister, Karen Pierce of Fredericksburg, VA.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at King's Way United Methodist Church, 2401 South Lone Pine Avenue, Springfield, MO with Pastor Laura Murphy officiating, under the direction of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Burrell Behavioral Health for the Todd Schaible Memorial Fund, 1300 E. Bradford Parkway, Springfield, MO 65804.
