Thomas Edwin Murphy, age 76, of Springfield, MO passed away on Tuesday, May 20, 2014. He was born August 14, 1937 in St. Louis, MO. After earning his BS in Business and MS in Statistics from University of Missouri, Tom proudly served two years in the US Army and ten years in the Army Reserves, retiring as a Captain. He was a member of Delta Upsilon fraternity, First & Calvary Presbyterian Church and Hickory Hills Country Club. Employed as a business consultant with computer emphasis, he also taught business classes at Ozark Technical College, SMSU and Washington University. He was preceded in death by his parents Tom and Thelma Murphy. He is survived by his wife Judy of 53 years; his sister Betty White of St. Louis, MO; his two daughters and their spouses, Cathy and Sean McGinty of St. Louis, MO and Patty and Steve Ghertner of Nashville, TN; his four beloved grandchildren, Patrick, Ben, Megan and Ryan; his brother-in-law John Ezell of Kansas City, MO and his brother-in-law William Ezell and his wife Linda of Denver, CO. The family wishes to thank the staff at Maple Wood Alzheimer's Special Care Center for their loving care and Oxford Hospice for their support. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, May 30, 2014 at First & Calvary Presbyterian Church, with the Reverend Greg Ellis officiating. Burial with military honors will precede the memorial service at 10:00 am at Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Springfield. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Thursday, May 29, 2014 at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 1630 W.
