Thomas Reese Latimer, 74, went to be with his Heavenly Father on October 14, 2010, in St. Johns Regional Medical Center. He was born February 16, 1936, in Independence, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Thomas Walker and Elsie M. Latimer. Tom began a career in sales with Armeo Steel Corporation in Kansas City, Mo., and was current owner of McDaniel Furs in Springfield, Mo. He was a loyal member of Kings Way United Methodist Church, past president of the Greene County Heart Association , and was a past member of Twin Oaks Country Club and board member. He served on the committee for the Julian ALS Golf Torunament, was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity, and longtime supporter of the Regional Girls Shelter in Springfield, Mo. Thomas was survived by his wife of 53 years, Willetta D. Latimer; children, Janelle M. Rogers, Joan Summers and husband David, and Jeffery M. Latimer; grandchildren, Stephen M. Rogers, Shannon M. Rogers, Rebecca J. Rogers; Thomas J. Latimer, Lindsay K. Latimer, Andrew D. Summers; great-granddaughter, Maddisyn J. Renfro; brother-in-laws, Michael H. Chappelow (Marty) and R. Kent Chappelow (Sandy); many dear nieces and nephews; and cousin, Betty Ann Steinhauser (Wayne). A visitation will be held in the Meditation Chapel in Kings Way UMC, Sunday, October 17 from 4 to 6:30 p.m. The Celebration of Life service for Tom will also be in Kings Way, Monday, October 18 at 1 p.m., in the church sanctuary. Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home will be directing the services. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Greene County Heart Association , Regional Girls Shelter, or charity of choice.
