Theodosia "Theo" Barnes, 97, Springfield, passed away Monday February 23, 2009 in the home of her caregivers Vicky and Art Scott. She was born February 18, 1912 in Webb City, Missouri, the daughter of George W. and Emma Hizar Ferree. The Barnes family owned and operated Barnes General Store. Later Theo ran a beauty salon and managed different properties. She was a fifty year member of the Order of the Easter Star, Queen City Chapter #226, a longtime member of Second Baptist Church and was also a member of Tatum Chapel. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Jim Barnes and his wife, Martha; three brothers and two sisters. Theo is survived by a grandson, Jim Barnes, Jr. and his wife, Tonia; great-grandchildren, AJ and Jordan Barnes; and her caregivers, Vicky and Art Scott. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 27, 2009 in Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel with the Reverend Ed Meyer officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
