Thelma Dunlap Venable, 94, passed away Monday, June 20th at 4:10 a.m. at Mercy Villa in Springfield. She was born March 16, 1917 in Seligman, Missouri to James T. and Sarah Weddington Dunlap. Thelma graduated from Seligman High School Class of 1935. She moved to Springfield to attend Draughon's Business College and after graduating worked several years for Southern Missouri Trust Company (Now U.S. Bank). She joined First Baptist Church in October, 1935, and had served as both Director and Secretary of the Sunday School Pre-School Department. She also served on many church committees over the years. She married Harry J. Venable, Jr. on September 3, 1939. Harry preceded her in death on September 2, 2005. Two sisters also preceded her in death. Survivors include her son Gary (Janna) Venable, daughter, Jane (Rick) Kessinger and a sister, Nellie Ellis all of Springfield; nine grandchildren Jim, Lori, Chris and Sarah Venable, Lauren (Seth) Wilmes, Amy (Patrick) McCroskey, Emily (Tim) Kessinger-McCroskey, Jeff (Melody) Kessinger, John (Kristin) Kessinger; ten great-grandchildren, Alyssa Williams, Victoria, Carolina, and Andrew Kessinger, Cameron, Ellie and Hayley Kessinger-McCroskey, Alexa McCroskey, Kinley and Madalyn Wilmes. Funeral services will be Thursday, June 23rd at 1:00 p.m. in Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel. Burial will follow in Missouri Veterans Cemetery.
