IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Theda "Judy"
King
December 28, 1923 – February 20, 2016
Theda "Judy" King, age 92, passed away on Saturday, February 20, 2016, in Springfield, MO. She is survived by two daughters, Patricia Lambert and Theda "TJ" Vaughn both of Springfield, and one son, Ed Vaughn (Judy) of Las Vegas NV. She is also survived by grandchildren Scott (Angie) Lambert of Sikeston MO, Chris (Jennifer) Vaughn of Brunswick MD, Ben Lambert of Ozark MO, Jennifer Vaughn (Michael) Myer, Grandview MO; great-grandchildren J. Scott (Carolyn) Lambert of Sikeston MO, and Elizabeth, Joshua and Grace Myer of Grandview MO; great-great-grandchildren Joseph Lambert of Sikeston MO and Declan Myer of Grandview MO. Theda was preceded in death by husbands Woodrow Vaughn and Howard King, grandson Todd Lambert, and infant son Howard King, Jr., and nine siblings and their spouses.
Her greatest loves in life were her family, her home, and her garden. She had worked on the family farm, in retail sales, and as a floral designer. She volunteered with Welcome Wagon and in hospital auxiliary as a Gray Lady where she served as an officer. She also lead a Girl Scout troop, and helped with Vacation Bible School at the First Methodist Church, Sikeston MO.
Theda, "Judy" as she was also known, was the rock of her family, a wise counsel, and had a wonderful loving concern for all her family and friends. She always knew the weather forecast but never feared storms, had a killer wit and sense of humor, and loved a spirited discussion of politics and current events. As many of us, especially as we age, she enjoyed more and more the family stories of long ago. She was very much loved and adored and will be sorely missed. The family extends special thanks to all who provided loving care for her this last year, who telephoned, visited, and sent cards and flowers. Per Dad and Mom's request, a brief service will be at the chapel on the grounds of the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, on Friday, February 26, at 10:00 a.m., where the urn with her ashes will be interred in the vault with dad. Arrangements are under the care of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home, Springfield MO, and online condolences are welcomed at www.gormanscharpf.com. In lieu of flowers, Theda requested a donation to your favorite charity or performing an act of kindness for someone in need.
