Terry Winkler, M.D., walked into heaven on July 23, 2014 to begin his eternal life with his Lord and Savior. He was born February 25, 1953 in Bastrop, Louisiana to Otto and Claudia Winkler. Although he sustained a spinal cord injury at age 18, Terry's wheelchair never confined him. His faith helped him conquer depression, paralysis, and attitudinal and architectural and barriers, to attend college and obtain his medical degree from the LSU Medical School. Loving husband and father, dedicated servant of God, physician, disability rights advocate, pastor, pilot, adjunct professor, restorer of classic Mopar cars, avid LSU fan, board member and fundraiser for Camp Barnabas and Joni and Friends Ministry, and caring, generous friend, Terry pursued life with passion. Terry is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 26 years Janice, two daughters, Misty Robertson (Chris) and Nancy Moss (Wes), his identical twin brother Kerry Winkler, his sister Beverly Winkler, several grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends. The family plans a memorial service at Grace Chapel, Springfield, Missouri, on Saturday July 26, at 10 a.m. They gratefully acknowledge the care given by Dr. Will Sistrunk, Dr. Susan Woody, Dr. Preeti Modi, the staff at Mercy Hospital and Integrity Hospice. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Camp Barnabas or Joni & Friends Ministry.
