Obituary

Taney Hargus German, 81, died peacefully Tuesday, May 12, 2009. Taney Jean was born on February 29, 1928 in Jefferson City, Missouri. She was the second daughter of Charles and Taney Hargus. She is survived by her husband, Walter A. German; her son, Charles and his wife Jan; her daughter, Tracy and her husband, Don; and four loving grandchildren, Sarah and Charles German and Michael and Jack Meehan. Taney and her husband Walter recently celebrated their 59th as husband and wife. Taney attended Jefferson City High School and studied two years at Christian College (now Columbia College) before entering into nurses training at Washington University School of Nursing. She graduated in 1950 and married during that year. While awaiting her husbands graduation from Washington University School of Medicine, Taney was an R.N. at Barnes Hospital. The family moved to Springfield, Missouri in 1955 and raised both children. Taney enjoyed life and cherished her family. She was an active volunteer in numerous church, civic and community organizations. She served on many boards and particularly enjoyed her work with the Springfield Medical Auxiliary and the Springfield Art Museum. Taney smiled and laughed her way thru life. She and her husband were avid travelers and their travels covered the globe. Taney's giving and outgoing personality endeared her to many, many friends. She will be missed by all. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, May 14, 2009 in King's Way United Methodist Church with the Reverend Jon Spalding, officiating under the care of Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel. Private burial will be in Missouri Veterans Cemetery. No visitation is planned. A reception will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Hickory Hills Country Club. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
