Obituary

Talbert (Coach) C. Kelley, Jr., 65, formerly of Memphis, TN, passed away on April 8, 2010 at the Missouri Veterans Home in Mt. Vernon, MO. He was born on June 28, 1944, in Memphis, TN, to Talbert and Ruby Kelley. He was raised by loving grandparents, Boonie and Albert Kelley of Memphis. Talbert was preceded in death in 1998 by his wife of 29 years, Donnie Beard Kelley, his parents, grandparents, and younger brother, Mike Kelley. He is survived by two sisters, Pat White and husband Tom of Springfield, MO, and Nancy Cothern and husband Dwight of Memphis, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. Affectionately nicknamed "Coach", Talbert was a graduate of Memphis State University and was the coordinator for many charity tennis tournaments in memory of his brother, Mike Kelley. Talbert was an Air Force Vietnam veteran serving his country from 1967 to 1973. Graveside services with full military honors will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at the West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery, 4000 Forest Hill-Irene Road, Memphis, TN under the direction of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home, Springfield, MO. In lieu of flowers, Talbert requested memorials be donated to the Missouri Veterans Home, 1600 S. Hickory Street, Mt. Vernon, MO 65712, or the American Cancer Society. The family wishes to acknowledge with gratitude the staff of the MO Veterans Home and Seasons Hospice for providing a loving and compassionate transition from his earthly home to his heavenly one.
