Susan Jane Marshall was the sixth oldest of 14 children born in the Mathews Marshall home. She was born on June 20, 1953 and left this earth on June 29, 2014. She was a graduate of Central High School in Springfield, MO. She earned a Bachelor of Liberal Studies from Lincoln University and her MBA from William Woods University, Fulton, MO. Susan served her country as a United States Marine for almost 10 years. She was also a member of the Marine Corps League, Detachment 993, here in Springfield. After active duty military, Susan returned to Springfield where she began her career in state government with the Department of Social Services, serving as a Youth Specialist in the Division of Youth Services (DYS). Susan is survived by her 13 siblings: brother Jesse Hill (Gayle), brother Frank Mathews Marshall, sister Clidia Mathews Hendrick, sister Mable Mathews Leath, brother Clyde Mathews, Jr., sister Mary Marshall Franklin, brother Elbert Marshall (Lois) of Jefferson City, MO, brother Joe Marshall (Debbie), sister Clara Marshall Starks (Charlie), brother Jimmy Marshall, brother James Marshall (Teresa), sister Janice Marshall, sister Jeannie Marshall Barge (Darrell). She also leaves to mourn one Aunt Clara Estelle Matory of East St. Louis, IL; cousins Cora Bell Williams Walker and her husband of Las Vegas, NV, Kenny Morris and his wife of Kansas City, MO, John Morris of Kansas City, MO, Michael Morris and his wife of AZ; and a host of nieces, nephews (great/great-great), half sisters, brothers, cousins, family and friends. Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 3, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Washington Avenue Baptist Church. Burial will follow at 1:00 p.m. in Missouri Veterans Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, July 2, 2014 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or Springfield Advocates For Youth.
