Steven Louis Sauer, age 70, of Springfield, Missouri passed away in the evening of August 24, 2014 at Cox South Hospital. Steve was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and son; always striving to take care of all of those he loved. As co-owner of Pickwick Place Children's Center, he believed in providing a creative and loving environment for all children. He was preceded in death by his father Louis E. Sauer and his mother Dorothea Fredda Pett Sauer. He is survived by his wife, Virginia "Jenny" Sauer; his son Scott Louis Sauer; daughter-in-law Carrie M. Brauch-Sauer; grandsons Jack Louis Sauer, Calvin Henry Sauer, Trevor Walker Van Matre, and Lane Austin Van Matre; brother JP Somersaulter of Brazil; sisters Marilyn Burba, Kathryn Sauer, and brother-in-law Doug Brown of St. Louis; and many nieces, nephews, friends, and those who called him a second dad. At Steve's request there will be no funeral services. A private memorial will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made in Steve's name to the charity of the donor's choice.
