The Grateful Dead lost their most loyal follower, Steven Eugene Miller of Battlefield, Missouri on July 14, 2015, as he was welcomed into Jesus' waiting arms after a long battle with cancer. Born on January 8, 1955, Steve was an Army Veteran and a member of the 1973 Central High School graduating class. A collector of many things, Steve also enjoyed fishing, music, and bicycles. Springfieldians will remember Steve riding the streets of town as a young man on his unicycle. The shopkeepers of every store he frequented knew his name and his life story, as Steve was willing to share his life with anyone he came in contact with. He was quite proud of his family heritage which included his Granny Alice M. Pittman, and distant (6th) cousin Lester E. Cox, as well as his security job at University Plaza here in Springfield. Preceded in death by the love of his life, Nancy, and his parents, Retha and Harry Miller, he is survived by his children Rick (Rebecca) Temple, Fair Play; Christopher (Shasta) Miller, Springfield; Melody Miller, Poplar Bluff; and Michael (Juanita) Gisi, St Joseph. Sisters, Jane Harris, Pensacola, Florida; Carol (Mark) Sewell, Springfield; and Karen Odum-Miller, Springfield; 6 grandchildren, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Visitation is scheduled at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 22nd from 6-7 pm, and a funeral service with military honors will be held at the Missouri Veteran's Cemetery on Thursday, July 23rd at 1:00 pm.
