Stephan "Steve" E. Laughlin age, 70 passed away at 2:30am on December 12, 2024.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Carole, and his sister Stacey.
He is survived by his loving wife, Laura, and his children: Sarah Smith and husband Ken, Kathryn, Amanda and Joe. He is also survived by his brother, Bill Laughlin and wife Linda, daughter Leigh.
He was truly a remarkable individual, gifted in mathematics and blessed with an impeccable taste in music. His exceptional writing skills were evident in everything he created; he found joy in expressing himself through pen and paper. His unique way of doodling reflected his artistic traits, showcasing his creativity.
Beyond his talents, he was charismatic and genuinely charming. He had a warmth that made those around him feel valued, as he was incredibly friendly and caring. Family was always his top priority, and he consistently put their needs above his own, embodying a deep sense of love and devotion.
He devoted his time and service to the U.S. Army during the presidency of Jimmy Carter, spending memorable years in Nuremberg, Germany, as part of the First Armored Division, famously known as "Old Ironsides." Following his military service, he continued to exemplify his dedication to others by volunteering with the Salvation Army, a testament to his compassionate spirit and unwavering commitment to making a difference in the lives of those in need.
"Steve was one of the smartest, most honest, and unbiased people I have ever known," his brother Bill shared.
Steve will be laid to Rest at the Springfield National Cemetery, 1702 E. Seminole St., Springfield, Missouri with Military Honors on Friday, December 27, 2024, at 1:00 PM, under the direction of the Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home.
