Obituary

Stanley Q. Schlesing, 77, of Nixa, died peacefully Sunday morning at St. John's Hospital in Springfield. He was born August 18, 1933 in St. Louis, Mo. to Louis and Rose Schlesing. Stan served in the Army Signal Corps during the Korean War. He worked as an elevator constructor and mechanic for 44 years, retiring in 1996 as a proud member of the United Union of Elevator Constructors Local 12 in Kansas City. He was a member of The Gate of the Temple Masonic Lodge, and an avid bicyclist and water skier. He helped build Joplin's Rails to Trails project and was involved in Crosslines of Springfield, Habitat for Humanity and many other volunteer service projects. He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Betty of Nixa; his son, David of Joplin; his daughter, Amy of North Little Rock; three grandsons, Gabriel, Brendan and Matthew of Joplin; and one brother, Carl of Arizona. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, August 5 at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home, 1947 E. Seminole St., Springfield, Mo. Interment will follow at 2 p.m. at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, 5201 South Southwood Road, Springfield, Mo, with The Reverend Dorsey Levell officiating. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, please make donations to The American Cancer Society.
