Obituary

Stanley Lewis Oliver, 72, passed away on Monday, June 14, 2010. Stan was in Minnesota, in the Mayo Clinic for treatment of cancer. Stan was born March 4, 1938, in Ft. Collins, Colo., to Darold and Margaret Oliver. Stan was married to Barbara Marble, of Neosho, on June 30, 1957. The couple had two sons, Chuck and Bob. After serving four years active duty in the Air Force and two years in the Air Force reserves, Stan spent 22 years in the business world prior to pursuing his life passion of teaching and coaching. He taught at Kickapoo High School for 17 years, where he retired in 2000. After his official coaching career, Stan continued as a volunteer coach at Carver Middle School for the past 10 years. Stan was a Christian man and faithful member of South Haven Baptist Church in Springfield, Mo. Stan was happy traveling the country and playing cards and games with his camping club friends. But Stan was happiest while coaching and watching his grandchildren and the young athletes whose lives he touched. Stan is survived by his loving wife, Barbara, of Springfield, Mo; his sister, Darlene and husband JR Hampton, of Springfield, Mo.; two children, Chuck and wife Sharon, of Greenwood, Mo., and Bob and wife Patty of Springfield, Mo. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Tara Phillips, Tanner Oliver, Austin Oliver, BrandiWyne Duhon, LauralLee Duhon, and Cole Oliver. Visitation services are scheduled for Friday, June 18, 2010, from 6 to 9 p.m., in South Haven Baptist Church, in Springfield. Funeral services will also be held in South Haven on Saturday, June 19, 2010, at 1 p.m., with graveside services to follow in Rivermonte Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Stan Oliver Memorial Fund for youth sports, at the Springfield Teachers Credit Union, 1131 N. Boonville, Springfield, MO 65802, in honor of Coach Oliver. Arrangements are under the direction of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home.
